Operator Evaluations
Ensure your operators are trained and certified before operating equipment.
The competence of personnel is vital to enable a business to operate effectively and safely. Where a level of training, competency or a certificate is required to operate equipment or perform a work activity, no person should be permitted to undertake that activity without an adequate level of training, competency or the necessary certificate being attained.
It is important to remember that competency in equipment operations is not just about knowing how to operate the machine. It is also about being able to identify and assess hazards and to take steps to mitigate those hazards.
An operator’s training and assessment of competence is evaluated through a knowledge assessment and a practical demonstration of ability.

Part One
The worker needs to have knowledge and awareness of the functions of the equipment and other common information associated with its safe operation.
For a new operator, a short e-course relevant to the equipment, may be recommended from our online learning centre.
To successfully complete Part One, the theoretical section, the participant will require a pass mark on the e-course.
Part Two is the practical assessment and consists of an observation and the evaluation of the operator’s competency. The worker needs to be able to demonstrate competence with the operation of the equipment.
The assessor must be satisfied that the participant can safely operate the machine in a range of tasks that would be generally undertaken in day to day operations.
Part Two
Once section one and two are successfully completed, the operator can be signed off. A Certificate of Competency will be issued and remain valid for 3 years.
